Teeth Whitening

If your pearly whites aren’t so pearly or white due to years of nicotine, caffeine, and dark beverages, you are not alone. Millions of Americans suffer from yellowing or stained teeth. At Dental Healing Arts, we offer the most advanced and safe solutions for teeth whitening procedures.

You can choose our safe, in-office prescription strength whitening treatment or highly effective, custom take-home trays with teeth whitening gels. Both systems can turn back the clock and reveal a brighter, whiter, pearlier, and more youthful smile.

Why Choose Teeth Whitening?

The color of your teeth can affect you emotionally, socially, and even professionally. Some studies even suggest that those who smile more are considered to be warmer and more inviting. A professional whitening treatment at the Jupiter office of Dental Healing Arts will boost your self-esteem and give you more reasons to smile!

Why Do Teeth Become Discolored?

There are several reasons teeth can become discolored. These are a few of the most common reasons:

  • Beverages and chemicals in food
  • Tobacco
  • Sings of aging
  • Medicines (such as tetracycline or iron-containing liquid supplements)
  • Old dental work
  • Excessive fluoride
  • Genetics

Although most people think of tooth enamel as white, an unstained and natural tooth can range anywhere from white to bluish-gray to pale yellow. Even if you floss and brush daily, stains will tarnish your smile and hamper your confidence.

Options for Whitening Your Teeth

Fortunately, you don’t have to live with discolored teeth. Following a thorough examination at our Jupiter office, Dr. Fotek will recommend the best solution for brightening your smile and whitening your teeth in the long term. Check out the different types of teeth whitening solutions offered through our Jupiter office:

In-Office Customized System

The fastest and safest way to achieve a vibrant whiter smile is through the in-office safe prescription strength procedure. This type of whitening uses a professional and highly concentrated strength gel in a controlled setting by our trained clinicians.

In a little over an hour, your teeth can be transformed from dingy yellow to a brilliant, dazzling white. We offer a few options based on patients' needs, including Opalescence Boost, Zoom, Pola Office, Venus White, and Glo. We also offer custom take-home teeth whitening kits designed to help you keep your new smile as bright as possible for a long time. Like our in-office treatments, our take-home treatments provide dynamic results in a surprisingly short amount of time.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

For those who prefer in-home treatments, we can customize bleaching trays for you to use at your home. Typically, our in-home treatments include a professional-grade whitening solution, which is slightly weaker than the ones we use in the office. It should be used for about one hour each day. You will notice results almost instantly, but the best results appear in about one to two weeks of daily treatments.

OTC (Over-The-Counter) Teeth Whitening

The market is flooded with over-the-counter teeth whitening products; however, these products are not as effective as in-office products or our prescribed take-home treatments. If you prefer using an OTC product, simply ask us, and we will be happy to suggest the most effective product.

At the end of the day, our goal is for you to have a gorgeous smile and healthy teeth. Make sure you use the OTC products as directed and avoid using those products for longer than recommended.

Toothpaste for Tooth Whitening

Dr. Fotek does not recommend using whitening toothpaste, as they are abrasive to the natural tooth structure and any restorations. As a holistic alternative, Dr. Fotek will choose the best toothpaste that is the most natural and will help remineralize your tooth structure.

Sensitivity Management

In case you experience temporary sensitivity in your teeth while whitening, do not be alarmed. It is due to the strong formulation of the gel that removes the stained layers on the surface of your teeth, which lightens them.  During and shortly after the process of whitening, teeth may become sensitive to cold or high temperatures.  At Dental Healing Arts, we have specific recommendations on what to do and not to do to avoid sensitivity. To assure your comfort and help you receive the best possible experience, all our treatments are customized to your needs.  Starting from the custom fitting trays that are the safest of them all, gel type and strength, as well as the way of whitening.

How to Care for My Teeth After a Whitening Procedure?

Following all teeth whitening treatments, we advise our patients not to smoke, eat, or drink staining foods for at least 48 hours. This is important because recently whitened teeth will absorb stains easily. In addition, whitening systems can cause an increased level of sensitivity in gums and teeth. However, both side effects should gradually pass with time.

Are There Alternatives to Teeth Whitening?

If teeth whitening and bleaching don’t get your teeth to your desired color, veneers are your next option to achieve the smile of your dreams. Porcelain veneers are extremely durable and designed to last an extremely long time. Best of all, porcelain veneers don’t stain or discolor. In addition to providing a brilliant smile, they will also cover chips, cracks, and misalignments.
